he Grants Committee, a standing committee, is composed of four Trustees and the Executive Director.

Grant applications are available from the Foundation Office and are accepted at any time of the year. The Grants Committee may request that a grant be presented in person by the applicant to the full Board of Trustees. Requests may be submitted on a standard grant application form for formal consideration by the Committee. The Grants Committee then makes recommendations to the Board.

Stone Lab, Lake ErieThe Education Foundation's first grants were processed in April, 1987. They included a request for partial funding of a two-day trip for exemplary middle school science students to study at Lake Erie's Stone Laboratory.

Since that time, the challenge to the Grants Committee continues to be to reach as many different students, curricula, and departments as possible with the funds available for distribution. As of December 31, 2003, the total amount of money in grants given by the Foundation was $256,029.00. The total to that date of both grants and awards from restricted endowment funds was $321,463.32.

As of April 2005, the Trustees voted to change the by-laws adding, "All restricted funds shall be used for current UA students, not used for scholarships for post-high school education. This insures that money raised by the UAEF is used for the benefit of UA students while they are enrolled in our schools.
